How to know your jewellery size
From rings to cuffs to chains, it's not always easy to know what size you should be getting. Read on for a guide on how to find out your size when buying jewellery.
Rings
Lady Bricks uses UK sizes for rings, with sizes ranging from A right through to Z. All of Lady Bricks’ made to order jewellery is made especially for you to your size specifications, so if you don’t see the size you want on the website, just get in touch.
How to measure your ring size
-
The best and most accurate way is to head to a nearby jewellery store and ask if they can measure your ring size.
-
To measure your ring size at home you can find a ring you already have that fits and measure its inside diameter in millimetres (be careful to be as accurate as possible). Then do a quick internet search for ‘UK ring size conversion chart’, scroll down the chart’s ‘inside diameter’ column until you find your diameter, and see what UK size that corresponds to.
-
If you don’t have a ring that fits already, you can measure the circumference of your finger. You can use a piece of string or thread for this, but the best way is to get a thin strip of paper (ideally the same width as the band of the ring you want) and wrap it comfortably round your finger — you don’t want it too tight. Mark the spot where the paper meets, and measure that distance to get your finger’s circumference in millimetres.
-
Measure as carefully and accurately as you can because ring sizes are precise things — there’s only about a millimetre or so difference in circumference between ring sizes.
-
Once you know your inner circumference (the circumference of your finger) do a quick internet search for ‘UK ring size conversion chart’. Look down the 'inside circumference' column in the chart until you find your inner circumference, and look which UK ring size your circumference corresponds to.
-
If you’re between sizes, it’s best to go up a size — particularly if you’re choosing a wider ring band. Or, for Lady Bricks jewellery that’s made to order, you can get in touch to order a half size.
-
If you already know your ring size for US & Canada or Europe, for example, just do a quick internet search for ‘UK ring size conversion chart’ to convert your size into a UK ring size.
Top tips for ring sizing
-
Your fingers can change size a lot during the day, and when they’re cold they’re at their smallest. So aim to warm up your hands to a normal temperature before measuring your ring size, and aim to measure at the end of the day when your fingers will be largest.
-
Measure your finger a few times at different points in the day and even over a few different days and take an average, to help make sure you get an accurate measurement.
-
Rings with thicker bands feel tighter than rings with thinner bands. If you’re going for a thick band (about 6-7mm or more) you may want to consider going up a size.

Cuffs & Bracelets
All of Lady Bricks’ made to order jewellery is made especially for you to your size specifications, so if you don’t see the size you want on the website, just get in touch.
How to measure your cuff size
-
Cuffs without an opening are sized by the inside circumference of the cuff — and the size you need is determined by the size of your hand, not your wrist.
-
Measure the widest part of your hand. Do this by bringing your thumb across your hand to touch your little finger (as though you were going to slip a bangle on), and measuring your hand at its widest point using a piece of string or thread, or a flexible tape measure.
-
Add a centimetre or two for comfort, and you know your cuff size.
-
If the cuff you've chosen has an opening and can be slipped onto your wrist, you should measure the circumference of your wrist rather than your hand. Once you know your wrist measurement, add a centimetre or two depending on how loose you want to wear your cuff, and you have your cuff size.
How to measure your bracelet size
-
For bracelets that have a clasp (so you don’t need to slide them over your hand) just measure the circumference of your wrist, and choose the size that best corresponds to your wrist measurement. You can add an extra centimetre or two depending on how loose you want to wear your bracelet.
Necklaces & Chains
Necklace chains typically come in lengths of 14 inches, 16 inches, 18 inches, and 20 inches. There’s a few good ways to check what length chain you want to choose (a lot of it is up to your personal preference and where you want your pendant to sit). All of Lady Bricks’ made to order jewellery is made especially for you to your size specifications, so if you don’t see the size you want on the website, just get in touch.
How to decide your chain length
-
You can do a quick internet search for ‘chain length chart’ to see photos and diagrams of how different lengths of chain look.
-
Get some pieces of string or thread that are the same length as the chain and try them on to see how the different lengths sit on you and pick your favourite.
